hilary swank: out there somewhere

General Election 2010

I have a problem with the election.

I don't know who to vote for.

Actually, that's a lie. I do know who to vote for, but I can't. Kinda.

Let me explain. In Britain we have 3 main political parties and then the Independent ones as well. In most areas there are candidates for Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrats (Lib Dem). You will also now find candidates for the Green party as well. Yes, there are also loads of other parties, but for fear of forgetting one, I won't mention any of the smaller ones. (We all know about BNP and UKIP but for various reasons I won't comment on those at all other than saying that I will NEVER vote for either of those.)

Anyway, my problem is thus. It's no secret I like Lib Dem. I agree with them most, which means that they're the party I should vote for. I also think the Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg is awesome and will make a great Prime Minister. However, I can't vote for Lib Dem in my area. Well, I can, but I won't because the Lib Dem candidate in my area is pretty useless. My current MP is good and actually does stuff for our town, but he's a Labour MP. As it is, the Lib Dem guy in my area won't get elected, there are too many who like our current MP, so that would be a wasted vote anyway.

BUT my point is: why can't I vote for an MP who is going to take my views to the right people etc and will actually do something for my town, but also vote for who I want in charge of the country? I love my MP because he does his job right, but he's just with the wrong party I want in charge of the country!
