Old friends create amusement

I love conversations with old friends. I say old, but Adam isn't a majorly old friend. He's a uni friend, but cause I don't see him a lot, he's probably classed as an old friend.

Hiraeth am y Gwlad Cymry says:
are you still single?
Frau Bekki - Kaiserin der Welt بكي says:
yes
why?
Hiraeth am y Gwlad Cymry says:
just wondered
Frau Bekki - Kaiserin der Welt بكي says:
mm ok. not trying to set me up then
Hiraeth am y Gwlad Cymry says:
well...
only with John
:P
Frau Bekki - Kaiserin der Welt بكي says:
excuse me while i just regain my composure
might take a while to recover from th laughter
Hiraeth am y Gwlad Cymry says:
sorry I couldn't resist
no I didn't mean to be so blunt but we don't speak so often anymore and I like to keep up
Frau Bekki - Kaiserin der Welt بكي says:
no its ok
id have probably done the same in your position, to both
Hiraeth am y Gwlad Cymry says:
is there anyone you 'have your eye on?
Frau Bekki - Kaiserin der Welt بكي says:
you mean, that i actually have a chance with? no
Hiraeth am y Gwlad Cymry says:
Klien doesn't count no
Frau Bekki - Kaiserin der Welt بكي says:
damn.
still a no then. most of the people around here are morons, like they were before
Hiraeth am y Gwlad Cymry says:
right
Frau Bekki - Kaiserin der Welt بكي says:
well most of the blokes here were morons before i went to uni, and theyre still morons now. either that, taken or gay. yeah, that pretty much sums it up
Hiraeth am y Gwlad Cymry says:
oh well you've still got time
Frau Bekki - Kaiserin der Welt بكي says:
yes, that i have haha though you do have a knack of trying to make me feel old haha
Hiraeth am y Gwlad Cymry says:
do I?
sorry
Frau Bekki - Kaiserin der Welt بكي says:
nah it amuses me

I guess I should explain a few things here. I've known Adam since first year. I lived with him for a year. By 'lived with' I mean he was one of the 6 people I shared a house with in second year. I went to his wedding nearly two years ago, I was one of Rach's bridesmaids, cause we're friends too.
Adam used to fairly regularly ask me if I was still single and there are long running jokes to this. Normally John, one of our other housemates, would be mentioned. John was a bit odd. We pretty much all lost contact with/fell out with him a while back, but the joke still stands. John wasn't the prettiest of people, and we always used to take the mick out of him for coming from Birmingham. He didn't actually come from Birmingham, just quite near it, not very near, just quite (and nearer than the rest of us). Anyhoo, when John was dating somene, he used to shave. His back. As you can guess, this used to cause us (and actually still does) great amusement. I can't quite remember how it started but I think it was along the lines of John was looking for a new girlfriend and there was some joke about it being one of us 3 girls in the house. With there being 3 girls and 3.5 blokes (Adam was only half living there) the jokes went round, but only the one about John stuck, namely because noone would even consider that one. I think that's partly why it was so funny, because it was so insanely cruel to the other person involved! So yeah, that's why the John bit is in there.

On a different note, the latter half of that conversation reminds me of a time in the Noodle Bar. Three of us stood in the Noodle Bar. I remember complaining about lack of money and Adam told me to get a bloke so he could buy me stuff. Foolishly I thought he meant someone from round there and said that they'd have no money either, being a student. The next comment was basically saying 'put your brain in gear, you know full well I wasnt talking about a student'. I cant remember quite what was said though.

So yeah. Old friends remind me of good times :)

That's not terribly funny, you know. John's been a good friend, even if he hasn't kept in touch after uni, and he's a good person. He's not unattractive either, or he wasn't last time I saw him. I tipped a slush puppy over him once because he was being insufferable but he took that well too. Among Adam's issues is an inability to tell when a joke isn't funny/relevant any more, and I think 5 years is pushing the limit of how long it can be kept running.

I know, but it's something to do with Adam, the fact that it's been going on so long and the fact that it's actually not funny that makes it amusing, slightly.
I've not heard from John since... I forget when and he still owes me money that I'm never going to be getting back. I forget how much it was now anyway. Either way, it wasn't my choice to drop all contact, he just disappeared and noone could seem to get hold of him. Adam and John, however, are a completely different matter - they had a falling out of their own and I've no idea other than that.

For me, the funniest bit of that conversation was not the John bit, but the other stuff, I just didn't edit it.

Oh, and re the lady from Cheadle who I'm working with, Barbara Cooper, lives on the same road as you in a cottage right at the end, apparently. She thinks she knows you. Small world.
